| STAFF and WIRE REPORTS 'Drunker than Cooter Brown' Fifty-year-old Richard Willyard, of Lot 8, Golden Meadow, made an admission to Lafourche deputies few officers have heard. Shortly after 5 p.m. March 2, deputies pulled Willyard over after witnesses reported his red Dodge Dakota had been spotted spinning tires and maneuvering recklessly, authorities said. During the traffic stop, all signs indicated the Golden Meadow man had over-imbibed, according to Lafourche deputies. His speech was slurred and body swayed as he stood, the sheriff's office reported. But it was what Willyard said during a field sobriety test that sealed his fate. According to deputies, he refused the test, admitting "he couldn't see straight because he was drunker than Cooter Brown." Willyard's luck worsened when deputies learned he didn't have a driver's license, insurance, an inspection sticker or registration for his vehicle. Also, the truck's license plate was "not on file." An open 32-ounce can of beer was retrieved from the center console, deputies said. Willyard was charged with reckless operation of a vehicle, DWI (second offense), not having a driver's license, open container in vehicle, having a switched license plate and on an outstanding warrant for open burning. He was released from Lafourche Parish Jail after posting a $1,700 bond. |
| Flashing threats proves costly for Houma woman | Back to top |
| Melissa Faye Adams must have thought cursing at the Chauvin residents across the fence alone didn't fully demonstrate her ire. So, she dropped her pants and flashed her buttocks for emphasis, according to the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office. Adams, 35, of 2607 Isabel Drive, Houma, was walking along the sidewalk in the 4900 block of Bayouside Drive in Chauvin Friday evening when she encountered barking dogs, authorities said. The animals were secured inside a fence, but the barking apparently aggravated Adams, the sheriff's office reported. Adams responded with her own barking, authorities said. She began loudly threatening the pets' owners if they did not stop the dogs' barking, according to a sheriff's office report. When the barking continued, deputies said Adams' pants allegedly came down. She was arrested and charged with disturbing the peace by loud and abusive language, obscenity and simple assault. Adams was also wanted for prostitution and rioting. As she was being booked into the Terrebonne Parish Jail, deputies found a burned glass pipe in her possession, resulting in an additional possession of drug paraphernalia charge. Adams' bond was set at $11,000. |
